My name is Paula García Manchón and I am a translator, reviewer and linguistic consultant in English and Spanish with more than 15 years of experience.
In 1999, I entered the First Class of the Degree in Translation and Interpreting at the Complutense University and, in 2003, I graduated with an Award to the best grades in my class. In 2013 I returned to obtain a Master's Degree in English Linguistics and International Communication, which I achieved with honors, and I am currently in the process of completing my Doctorate.
In my translation work, I have gained extensive experience in working for international organizations, such as the United Nations, the European Council, WHO, WIPO, OHCHR or HRFT. Since 2012, I am a member of the Public Translators Service of the European Union and since 2014 I am part of the roster of Proofreaders and Editors of the United Nations. In 2015, I joined the team of Amnesty International translators and the UNESCO Support Services. I also work as a volunteer in Translators Without Borders.
In this last decade, I have worked in a variety of environments: as a literary translator of 19th-century English novels such as Charlotte Brontë, Louisa May Alcott or Evelyn Waugh, and more than 30 Disney children's books; as a medical translator for Bayer, Astra Zeneca or Merck; as a freelancer for local and international clients such as Cirque Du Soleil, Amazon Kindle, Nike or Dell; as a project manager for clients such as Imaginaruim, AENA or Movistar, and I have even been part of a team of in-house translators in a clinical research center. Thanks to this diversity of work environments I have been able to integrate myself in teams with people of different cultures, languages and origins, and I have learned to handle numerous tools of assisted translation.
In addition to translating, I collaborate as an associate professor in the Masters Degree in Scientific-Technical Translation at IULMYT, where I teach translation and transcreation and develop my research work in ShapesWords.
