Hello, my name is Albert and I am 29 years old. I am a professional freelance translator from Barcelona, so I am lucky to have two mother tongues, Spanish and Catalan. I love the art of translating because, in my opinion, it allows people all over the world to understand each other and be connected. I know it sounds like a topic, but for me it is the truth, and it is one of the main keys of the success of globalization.
For instance, I have been able to prove my theory myself, as thanks to speaking English, Chinese and Swedish at a quite advanced level, I have met people from these countries and been able to know them more personally and confidently, something that would have been impossible if I hadn’t spoken their native languages.
One can say that I have an international mindset, despite I consider myself very Spanish and very Catalan, because it is true that I have always loved to know about other cultures and I have adopted some of their traditions and cultural particularities during the time I have lived in these countries. I love how I have evolved and adapted myself thanks to these international experiences, because I not only like travelling to other countries, I like to stay there and live for some time in order to really imbue myself into them.
That is one important reason why I consider myself a very good translator, because I have analyzed, studied and observed for a long time how the other cultures (whose native languages I have managed to master) behave, think and act. I believe that a good translator must obtain this knowledge regarding his foreign languages, because only like that the translator will be able to transport the essence of one text to the other, and vice versa, as thanks to this unique knowledge of all the languages a translator can work with, he will be able to translate from and to a foreign language.
Finally, I love translating freelancely because it allows me to do it from my home office, from my garden, from a park, from a café, from a beach, from anywhere in the world, and I love this feeling of just being you and your to-be-translated text. I might feel a bit lonely sometimes, but it allows me to truly focus on my translation assignment. In spite of that, I also love to translate in a professional environment surrounded by co-workers, employees and such, because I can get some of their positive and hard-working vibes to myself, as well as not feeling so lonely and sharing the amazing feeling of converting a text from one language into another.
