I studied French for my BA Gen degree at the University of Malta, where instruction is in English. I then proceeded to get a BA Hons degree in Communication Studies, after which I worked as Head of Communications and Marketing at the International Office of the University of Malta.
After moving to the UK in 2004 with my husband and two children, I established myself as a freelance translator, following a short six-month course specialising the translations for EU institutions.
Since then, I have been appointed 1 of two translators for Maltese with the European Investment Bank. I have undertaken projects with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the UK, as well as various other agencies and government departments.
I have translated several EU Directives and Regulations as well as video transcripts of the European Parliament. On the legal side, I regularly translate civil and criminal law suits, contracts and certificates, etc. For the past ten years, I have been a lead linguist with a leading localization company undertaking software localization for Microsoft products.
I use a number of CAT tools for my translation work, mainly SDL Trados (2019), as well as MemSource, MemoQ, Wordbee, Smartling and others as and when required.
