What types of interpretation are there?
Consecutive and Simultaneous Interpretation
In the field of professional interpretation, there are mainly two primary types of services: consecutive interpretation and simultaneous interpretation. Each mode adapts to different communicative situations and it is essential to choose the most appropriate one depending on the context.
Consecutive interpretation involves the interpreter listening to the speaker for a short period (usually between 1 and 5 minutes), taking notes, and then conveying the message in the target language. It is ideal for small meetings, interviews, press conferences, or individual interventions where accuracy and clarity are required.
On the other hand, simultaneous interpretation is performed in real time. The interpreter translates the message while the speaker is talking, without interruptions. This type of interpretation is common at international congresses, multilingual conferences, or events where maintaining the flow of communication is essential.
